《 流 鼻 涕 和 鼻 塞 》

不 斷 流 鼻 涕 的 鼻 子 ， 英 文 叫 a runny nose 。 Runny 當 然 是 run 的 形 容 詞 　 (adjective) ； run 除 了 有 「 跑 」 的 意 思 ， 還 常 用 來 說 液 體 流 動 ， 例 如 running water 是 流 動 的 水 或 自 來 水 ， Tears ran down her cheeks. 是 「 淚 水 沿 著 她 面 頰 流 下 」 。
Tom ’ s nose was running, and he wiped it with a tissue. 即 「 湯 姆 用 紙 巾 擦 掉 流 下 的 鼻 涕 」 。
Runny nose 的 另 一 說 法 是 dripping nose ， 粗 鄙 一 點 ， 則 叫 snotty nose 。 Drip 是 「 滴 下 」 的 意 思 ， snot 則 是 鼻 涕 (mucus) 的 市 井 說 法 ， 有 「 不 潔 」 含 義 ， 例 如 ： He wiped his snot onto his sleeve. （ 他 用 衣 袖 擦 去 鼻 涕 ） 。 「 擤 鼻 涕 」 英 文 叫 to blow one ’ s nose ， 例 如 ： He blew his nose hard. （ 他 用 力 擤 鼻 涕 ） 。
講 到 流 鼻 涕 ， 不 能 不 講 講 鼻 塞 。 「 鼻 塞 」 可 用 congested, clogged, blocked 等 意 思 為 「 阻 塞 」 的 字 來 說 ， 例 如 ： He complained of a congested nose. （ 他 訴 說 鼻 塞 ） 。 鼻 塞 者 還 可 以 說 ： I can ’ t breathe. （ 我 沒 法 呼 吸 ） 或 My sinuses are congested. （ 我 鼻 竇 塞 住 了 ） 。 Nose （ 鼻 ） 的 形 容 詞 是 nasal ； 「 清 除 鼻 塞 」 英 文 叫 to relieve nasal congestion. 例 如 ： Nasal congestion can be relieved only temporarily. （ 鼻 塞 只 能 暫 時 消 除 ） 。
治 理 傷 風 、 鼻 塞 ， 一 般 可 用 成 藥 。 成 藥 英 文 叫 over-the-counter drugs 或 nonprescription drugs ， 必 須 醫 生 處 方 才 能 買 的 藥 則 叫 prescription drugs 。 These drugs are sold over the counter. 即 「 這 些 藥 無 須 醫 生 處 方 ， 即 可 買 賣 」 ， 那 counter 是 指 藥 房 的 櫃 檯 。
